One of the primary reasons people seek counseling is for help with the challenges they are experiencing related to a relationship(s), whether that’s a parent, sibling, spouse/partner, friend or colleague. When common obstacles such as a lack of trust, an absence of respect, co-dependency issues or issues of miscommunication are present, they become roadblocks standing in the way of your ability to maintain a positive and healthy relationship.
Challenges in communication often stem, not from what you say, but how you say it. When we are unable to communicate in a positive and healthy way, we are often left feeling unhappy and perhaps misunderstood. Since communication is one of the most important aspects to any kind of relationship, learning how to communicate in a healthy way is essential to getting our needs met and ideas and opinions shared.
Through the counseling process, we’ll look at the patterns of communication that aren’t working and try to identify what is driving it; focus on strategies for changing the communication pattern; and learn how to communicate in a more effective and healthy manner.
